Money Hacks (Part 4)

Money Hacks (Part 4)

Here’s a list of 10 more money hacks to help you save money and make the most out of your budget:

1) Order smaller portions when eating out

How much could you save by ordering smaller portions when eating out? If dining at dinner, ask if you can get a lunch portion or a half size. Or order an appetizer instead of a meal.

2) Work on your financial education

You will never regret gaining an understanding of financial concepts and working on your financial education.  RentPlus members have free access to FinStrong Education.

3) Compare prescriptions

Avoid overpaying for prescriptions. Generics are equally effective and cost much less. The average cost of a generic drug is up to 85% cheaper than name brand drugs. And prices between pharmacies also vary. Compare prices and save money.

4) Sign up for RentPlus

Ask your leasing office about RentPlus and start building credit simply by paying your rent on time. Did you know that up to 24 months of previous rent payments can be reported to the credit bureaus? Building your credit can help save money on deposits, interest and loans.

5) Learn skills online

With today’s technology, you can learn new skills for free. Online tutorials can show you how to do things yourself rather than pay for someone else to do it. You can learn how to change your own oil, take better photos, and so much more.

6) Compare prices

Be sure to get the best price by comparing before you buy. There are great apps for this such as Camelcamelcamel and Wikibuy. How much could you save if you did some price comparing first?

7) Quit a bad habit

Quit a habit that is costing you money such as smoking or drinking a lot of soda. Your health and wallet will thank you!

8) Take a staycation

Instead of a big vacation, visit local attractions and be a tourist in your own city. Think how much you could save on travel and hotel costs. You may end up really enjoying your own area.

9) Use the 30 day rule

Wait 30 days before making a big purchase. Often, you may decide not to buy it, saving you money otherwise spent on an impulsive buy.

10) Set an achievable goal

Setting an achievable goal is a great way to hold yourself accountable and save money. Once a goal is reached, you will build momentum to set new bigger ones. RentPlus Money has a great tool for setting goals.
